How to calculate capacitor value using tag

( For beginners )

You can find capacitor value using tag printed on it.

Table-1 :

capacitor-1

Table-2 :

capacitor-2

Table-3 :

capacitor-3

Table-4 :

capacitor-4

Example 1 :

capacitor-ex1

"0.01" is a capacitor value

See "Table-1" --- 0.01 means 0.01 µF (Microfarad) or 10 nF (Nanofarad) or 10000 pF (Picofarad)

or 103 (a Three digit capacitor tag. )

So it's 0.01 µF

Example 2 :

capacitor-ex2

"103" is a capacitor Tag

See "Table-2 " --- 1st digit is 1 , 2nd digit is 0 and 3rd digit is 3

(1)(0)(3) or (1)(0)(x1000) or 10x1000 pF or 10000 pF (Picofarad)

or 10 nF (Nanofarad) or 0.01 µF (Microfarad)

So it's 0.01 µF

Example 3:

capacitor-ex3

"104K" is a capacitor Tag with tolerance

See "Table-2 " --- 1st digit is 1 , 2nd digit is 0 , 3rd digit is 4 and 4th symbol is K

(1)(0)(4)(K) or (1)(0)(x10000)(±10%) or 10x10000 pF ±10% or 100000 pF (Picofarad)±10%

or 100 nF (Nanofarad)±10% or 0.1 µF (Microfarad)±10%

So it's 0.1 µF ±10%

Example 4 :

capacitor-ex4

"224Z Y5V" is a capacitor Tag with tolerance & Temperature rating

See "Table-2 " --- 1st digit is 2 , 2nd digit is 2 , 3rd digit is 4 and 4th symbol is Z

(2)(2)(4)(Z) or (2)(2)(x10000)(+80% -20%) or 22x10000 pF or 220000 pF (Picofarad) +80% -20%

or 220 nF (Nanofarad)+80% -20% or 0.22 µF (Microfarad)+80% -20%

See "Table-4 " --- 1st symbol is Y , 2nd symbol is 5 , 3rd digit is 4 and 4th symbol is V

Y=Low temperature(-30°C) ,5=High Temperature(+85°C),V=Capacitance change(+22% -82%)

So it's 0.22 µF +80% -20% (LT -30°C HT +85°C CC +22% -82%)

Example 5 :

capacitor-ex5

"2A 105K" is a voltage rated capacitor Tag with tolerance

See "Table-3 " --- 2A is 100 volt

See "Table-2 " --- 1st digit is 1 , 2nd digit is 0 , 3rd digit is 5 and 4th symbol is K

(1)(0)(5)(K) or (1)(0)(x100000)(±10% ) or 10x100000 pF or 1000000 pF (Picofarad) ±10%

or 1000 nF (Nanofarad)±10% or 1 µF (Microfarad)±10%

So it's 1 µF ±10% 100v

Example 6 :

capacitor-ex6

"2E 4n7J " is a voltage rated capacitor value with tolerance

See "Table-3 " --- 2E is 250 volt

(4n7)(J) ---- 4n7 is 4.7 nF(Nanofarad) and J is ±5% Tolerance (See Table-2)

4.7 nF (Nanofarad)±5% 250 Volt or 0.0047µF (Microfarad)±5% 250 Volt

So it's 0.0047 µF ±5% 250v

Example 7 :

capacitor-ex7

"105J 400V" is a capacitor Tag with tolerance and Voltage rating

See "Table-2 " --- 1st digit is 1 , 2nd digit is 0 , 3rd digit is 5 and 4th symbol is J

(1)(0)(5)(J)(400V) or (1)(0)(x100000)(±5%)(400 Volt) or 10x100000 pF ±5% 400 Volt or 1000000 pF (Picofarad)±5% 400 Volt

or 1000 nF (Nanofarad)±5% 400 Volt or 1 µF (Microfarad)±5% 400 Volt

So it's 1 µF ±5% 400v

Example 8 :

capacitor-ex8

470µF 25v 85°C (M) is a Electrolytic (polarized) capacitor because it has a (-) Negetive mark

(470µF) (25v) (85°C) (±20%) See Table-2

so it's 470 µF 25v 85°C ±20%
